After what was seen by fans as one of the strongest Danish finals for a number of years, 19 year old Emmelie de Forest was selected to make the short trip across the Øresund in May.

As is customary, the show featured ten acts with varying amounts of good singing between them, though even X Factor contestant Mohamed couldn't compete with Norway's Haji in the pretty-boy-bad-high-notes battle. Mohamed was nevertheless one of three superfinalists, along with Emmelie and pre-favourite Simone.

It was Emmelie however who won both the jury and televote, gaining around 50% of the televotes available and winning by a comfortable margin. 'Only Teardrops' is written by Thomas Stengaard, Julia Fabrin Jakobsen and Lisa Cabble, the latter of whom was responsible for two Denmark's better Eurovision results, writing 'Fra Mols til Skagen' and 'New Tomorrow'.

According to Wikipedia, Emmelie claims to be a great great granddaughter of the British Queen Victoria. Like most things on Wikipedia, however, this probably isn't true, but rest assured we'll quiz her about it in May. In the meantime, enjoy 'Only Teardrops'.
